A Quiet Afternoon at Java Joe's

I am sitting at Java Joe's at 1029-K West Main Street in Lebanon enjoying my glass of fruit tea and waiting on my lunch consisting of a Caribbean Wrap and pasta. The first thing I notice about this establishment has nothing to do with it's "coffee house" motif, nicely arranged couches and tables or the fact that they offer free wi-fi connections. It's the fact that after only a few visits inside the coffee house I was greeted by name. I love the fact we have a coffee shop right here in the middle of town and are known to the operators rather than just being another number served. Java Joe's has been a fixture in Lebanon for nine years and has seen two owner's in that time. Michael and Amanda Carpenter purchased the coffee shop from Donald Gann in September of 2008 and describe Java Joe’s as a place to eat and drink without the pressure to consume and move on. They say, "Coffee is important to us, but the only thing more important is people. Whether you hang with us, work for us or do business with us, we like you".

Java Joe's offers customers a variety of drinks such as coffees, frappuccinos, soft drinks and fruit tea. They have a wonderful breakfast menu of various bacon, sausage and egg bagels and pastries as well as a selection of salads, potatoes, sandwiches and wraps for lunch with pasta, chips or fruit as side choices all at a very reasonable price. A link to the menu is attached at the bottom of this blog or type http://www.diningwithsinners.org/javajoes/menu/ into your browser to see for yourself the wide selection of treats offered. All food purchases must be made inside however, if you need a quick cup of joe or a refreshing cold drink drive on thru. If you have some time , as I mentioned before Java Joe's has free wi-fi so bring your laptop inside and stay awhile. If you are a member of Foursquare (www.foursquare.com), a social networking site where you can check in with your friends on your social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook, then you can check in at Java Joe's and receive a half price drink for showing your Barista you are there. When Amanda brought my lunch out to the table my first response was that the food looked to pretty to eat. I quickly snapped a picture of the food and tried my Caribbean Wrap. It was a delicious spicy blend of chicken in a special sauce, bacon and lettuce encased in a wheat wrap with a pickle on the side. I chose a tangy Italian dressing pasta salad as my side.

Java Joe's has a variety of things going on at any given time including the 3/50 Project, A Third Place, various musical events throughout the year and Matthew's Table, a missional church community which Michael pastors. Matthew's Table meets every Sunday at 5pm on the Java Joe's premises. I've attended one of his services and must say it is truly a unique concept sharing a meal over worship. Michael is currently prepairing for a one to two week mission trip to Italy. My overall experience at Java Joe's whether dining inside or passing through the drive-thru for my usual "Yo Mama" has always been great. I like the relaxed atmosphere with free wi-fi, the coffee and fruit tea is top notch and the food is delicious. I am impressed that Java Joe's implements innovative programs like Foursquare discounts into their daily business and most of all just like Norm from Cheers, I like going to an establishment where they know my name.
